The snow has hit Surrey and there’s lots of it! If you are avoiding the ice on the roads, then I’m guessing that you missed your gym session or just cannot find the motivation to exercise. Well, our team of Surrey personal trainers has the answer. We’ve put together a great ‘fatburner’ workout…that you can do at home!
Lasting just 20 minutes, here’s what we recommend:
- Warm-up step-ups on the stairs for 2 minutes. Step on and off the bottom stair, alternating your legs to increase your heart rate to a level where you start to feel warm and a little out of breath.
- Perform a set of 20 bodyweight squats (stand in front of a chair and mimic the movement of sitting down). This is one the fundamental exercises that uses so many large muscles in your body that will burn more fat and increase your calorie expenditure.
- Now perform 12 press-ups, either from your knees or better still, your feet. ‘Brace’ your core throughout to protect your lower back. Try not to tense across your upper back and retract shoulder blades together.
- Now travel up and down the hallway or around the room performing ‘walking lunges’ (see pciture below). Place your hands behind your neck to promote good posture and to ‘switch-on’ your core muscles.
- Go back to do another 3 minutes of step-ups, this time adding a knee-raise to further increase your heart rate.
Repeat this short ‘fatburner’ circuit three times, in the morning and in the evening. If you want to progress the exercises, hold a weight in front of your chest whilst squatting and lunging.
(If you have a particular medical condition, are not familiar with these movements or have an injury, consult with a professional before commencing a new exercise programme)
