Sports Massage

Our Surrey personal training team at Total Personal Training also specialise in sports massage to treat musculoskeletal imbalances and sports injuries. Our therapists and trainers are trained to the highest industry standards.

Sports massage is natural therapy that helps to treat musculoskeletal problems and imbalances. It covers the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and tendons.  Common injuries which react well to sports massage include:

  • Frozen shoulder
  • Muscle strains and sprains
  • Lower back pain
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Compartment syndrome (shin splints)
  • Neck pain
  • Poor posture

It has many benefits both, physiological and physical. It works on different levels and it is the unique way it combines the many benefits to suit each individual that makes it such an effective method of treatment.

Injury Prevention

No matter what level of fitness, sedentary or athletic, massage can also play an important role in preventing an injury. Everyday life can lead to postural changes and stress within the body. With the correct assessment, treatment and exercise prescription, aches and pains can be rectified before a more severe problem manifests itself.

Injury Treatment

Where muscle dysfunction is present, massage can improve the speed and quality of soft tissue repair. If you have ever experienced a soft tissue injury such as a muscle strain or sprain, the rehabilitation stage can be a lengthy and frustrating process. Sports massage can aid the healing process by:

  • Encouraging blood flow to the injured area bringing with it nutrients to heal the injury
  • Realign muscle fibres
  • Break down scar tissue
  • Generally speed up recovery time

Over recent years, we have treated many individuals with injuries that haven’t been improved by other courses of treatment. We also have experience of being present at major sporting events.
