Personal Training Can Be Adapted

Last night’s theatre trip prompted today’s blog post on how personal training can be adapted to suit YOU.  No doubt you are wondering how watching tango dancers on stage whilst listening to the Spanish guitar being played can be linked to the valuable work of our personal trainers operating across Surrey?!

Well, just before the performance commenced, the lights went out, the microphones went silent and darkness sprung itself upon the audience.  Ah, a powercut minutes before the curtains go up could be described as a slight hitch!!!  After a small delay, a few adjustments and lots of apologies, the show went ahead.  Congratulations were in order to all involved in the running of the show.

So, how is this linked to personal training in Surrey?  Last week one of our trainers arrived at a client’s house ready for the personal training session (which usually takes place in the garden due to lack of space inside).  Suddenly, the heavens opened and the rain was pouring.  Quick thinking and a little bit of adapting allowed the personal training session to go ahead as scheduled, inside the house with only a small amount of floor space.  Our client had a fantastic ‘functional’ workout using very little equipment that included all of the vital components of exercise, i.e. elevated heart rate, strength training and flexibility.

Many clients often WANT personal training, NEED to work with a personal trainer but EASILY find a way to talk themselves out of how the service could actually work for them.  After all, ‘exercise’ is such a huge subject, how do you know where to start?

No matter what your circumstances, no matter which hurdles you feel as though you have in front of you (lack of time, lack of money, lack of space, lack of knowledge), our leading training methods can be adapted to suit YOU as an individual.  As we have said time and time again on our blog, one size does not fit all where exercise is concerned.  Your body is unique and should be treated that way.  Health is an incredibly valuable asset to have.

So, back to last night’s show.  The applause at the end of the evening was probably louder than if there had been lights and microphones at the start!  It’s easy to overcome any hurdles when you know how.

Summary of 4 Easy Steps to Fitness Success

Our previous blog post detailed the four easy steps needed to achieve fitness success.  If you miss out one of the steps or start halfway along, your body may not reward you for all of your efforts because one of the vital components is missing.

If you want to improve your fitness or want to know how to get started, here are the 4 easy steps in summary:

Firstly, have your body assessed to ‘iron-out’ any muscle imbalances.  If you exercise on muscles that are tight or even weak, it could put you at the risk of an injury.  This is where you find the true value in personal training – an exercise program that is designed for your very own unique body.  One size does not fit all!

From here you start to build stability, balance and aerobic fitness.  As you start to get ‘fitter’ (there are ways and means to measure this exactly) you then go to toning your muscles and finally build strength.

It is really important with any exercise program that it is changed and adapted frequently otherwise your body gets used to the training and soon stops adapting, i.e. you gain no ‘fitness benefits’ from your efforts.  It is also very easy to get stuck in your comfort zone because it feels easy.  This is what happens to many people who go to the gym and do the same thing over and over again…ever wondered why you see the same people every week or month and their body shapes NEVER change?

With small changes and the right exercises for your body, the benefits are huge!  Just follow the 4 easy steps.

A Great Quote to Sum Up Our Personal Training

During a new client consultation last week, Mike and I were giving some background about ourselves and which particular methods of training that we use.  Personal training in Surrey is very competitive and we feel it important to let our clients know exactly what they are letting themselves in for before they decide to train with us.

“We do the thinking for you – all you have to do is turn-up for the session.”  Regardless of our years and years of experience, this was the sentence that sold our services to the client.

If you have very little time to exercise, planning and preparing the type of training that you are going to do can actually put you off!  It becomes exhausting before you’ve even managed to put your trainers on.  After all, exercising for health is so much more than just going out for a jog.  It’s about building the capacity of your heart, strengthening your muscles to protect your joints, building balance throughout your core and overcoming an accumulation of stress in your body.  If you think that that lot doesn’t need some planning, then think again!  This is where we come in…we do the thinking, you just need to do the training.

There is so much value to personal training in Surrey.  Time is precious.  We give you back time by ensuring results without you having to even think about it!

Help! I'm Lacking Motivation to Focus on My Weight Loss Program.

You’ve reached the end of your summer break , it was very relaxing yet the scales declare that a few extra pounds have somehow crept on over the past few weeks and your fitness training program has taken a nose dive (if it ever existed in the first place).  Can you identifiy with this?  All of a sudden, any weight loss program is non-existant and you can’t find the motivation to follow a carefully guided plan.  This time of year, as a weight and fat loss personal trainer, my clients across Surrey often find themselves stuck in a rut, and cannot find a way out.

When I ask my clients what their priorities are, most reply, “I want to lose weight and feel fitter.  My weight loss program just isn’t working!  The summer has totally wrecked my focus”  Losing weight and feeling fitter are two very broad statements and in order to put them into action, they need to be broken down and made more specific.

Here’s some suggestions and strategies that I’ve used in the past on how to get out of the vicous circle:

1) Write down your goals.  Not too many, perhaps two or three.  Each goal should have a starting point and a finishing point.  Put a target date next to each one.  If your goal is weight loss driven, write down your current weight and set a REALISTIC weight loss target, i.e. if you set yourself a goal of losing 10 pounds of weight in 10 days, firstly this isn’t safe, it won’t happen and it isn’t realistic!   An achieveable and SAFE weight loss target is 2 pounds each week, so aim for something like 8 pounds a month (half a stone).

2) Don’t be afraid to admit what you don’t want to face up to.  Chances are, if you admit the problem, you can do something about it.  We are weight and fat loss personal trainers helping residents across Surrey and will help you put a plan of action in place so that you no longer feel afraid of reaching your desired goal.

3) Now put procedures in place to make your goal happen.  If you want to lose weight, eating the same junk food diet will not only make you feel depressed, but will also inhibit any breakdown of fat in your body.  Now is the time to get a qualified weight loss expert to help you with putting together a healthy eating plan.  This doesn’t mean skipping meals and depriving yourself of food!  Movement and exercise are also vital factors in any weight loss program, set at the right intensity for your own body (one size does not fit all).  You may need to seek guidance and support on this – that’s what fat loss personal trainers in Surrey are there for!

4) Track your progress along the way, at weekly or fortnightly intervals.  Using the example of weight loss above, write down any weight loss or gain.  If you failed to lose weight over the course of a week, don’t panic!  Be honest about the reason why and don’t dwell on it.  You cannot change what has been done, but you can always change what lies ahead.

5) Visualise what your goal will look like.  If that is a slimmer you, then picture it and believe that it can happen.  If you have the desire to feel fitter and lose weight, then trust that it will happen with the right guidance and support.

6) Next is preparation.  Let’s use the example of your healthy eating plan.  In order to put this into practive, you will need to write a shopping list and buy the right foods.  As a weight loss personal trainer, one of the things that gives me great pleasure is sharing the secrets of how to enjoy good, healthy food.

7) Now the easy part.  With all of the strategies in place, suddenly your weight loss program is back on track!  All you have done is spent a few minutes writing down what you want to achieve, you are thinking positively and have prepared the way forward to make your goals happen.

Sometimes, weight loss can seem like an insurmountable challenge.  When you have the right guidance and support from a weight and fat loss expert, who actually UNDERSTANDS what you are going through, getting your weight loss program back on track is a much easier task than facing it alone.  As soon as you start to feel and notice the changes in your body, suddenly your motivation will appear again!
